教学目标

1. To learn some new words about shopping

3. To practise the technique of skimming for comprehension and scanning for details

To make the students master the phrases about shopping

Step One: Warm up

1. Have a free talk with the students about shopping

1) Do you often go shopping?

2) What do you do for your friend’s birthday?

3) What does a shopkeeper say to you?
2. Present some new words: shopkeeper, quite expensive, pretty, discount, match, etc.

Step Two: Pre-reading

Ask the students to listen to the tape of the passage and answer the question.

Amy is shopping at Sunnyside Shopping Mall. She is looking for birthday presents for Simon and Sandy. What does she buy for them?
Step Three: While-reading

Part 1: Read the first conversation and do True or False questions.

( ) 1. Amy wants to buy some basketball cards and stickers for Simon.

( ) 2. This year’s cards only cost 6 yuan because there is a discount on them.

( ) 3.The stickers are 5 yuan.

Part 2:Read the second conversation and answer questions.

1. How much do the hair clips cost?

2. What does Amy buy for Sandy?

3. Does Amy buy a CD for Sandy?

Part 3: Ask the students to read the whole passage together and finish the exercises on the book.

Step Four: After-reading

1. Discussion

Classify the class into two halves------boys and girls. Have a discussion and find out what presents the boys /girls in our class prefer. Each group will choose a student to tell us what presents they prefer. Why?

2. Act out the conversation

3. Make up a dialogue using the conversation as a model

Step Five: Homework
