教学目标

1. To learn the new words.

2. To learn the plural forms of the nouns

3. To learn the General and Special Questions of “There be”. “Is/Are there…” “How many… are there…”

New words, the plural forms of the nouns and some sentence patterns

Teaching steps:

Step 1. 课堂检测

1. 电脑,计算机

2. 多少

3. 办公室

4. 厕所

5. 操场

6. 足球场

7. 建筑物,大楼

8. 图书馆

Step 2. Free talk

Have a free talk with the students. Revise something we have learned in Units 1-4, especially in Unit 4.

T: What is there in my hand?

S: There is…

T: What are there in our classroom?

S: There are…

Step 3. Presentation

1.Ask the students:

T: How many books are there in my hand?”

S: There are…

2. Get the students to open their school-bags and ask them “How many books are there in your bag?” ( Teach different numbers )

3.Practise other sentences, for example:

“How many pencils are there in your pencil-box?”

4. Discuss something not only in the classroom but also in the school. For example:

“How many classrooms are there in our school?”

“What else is in our school?”

(Teach other things in the school: a swimming pool, a football field and so on) and practise the sentences.

Step 4.Listen ,read and say

1. Listen to the tape: Get the students to repeat the contents after it.

2.Ask them to read the dialogue in the books and then answer some questions:

Is this Peter’s school?

Is there a computer room in his school?

Is there a football field in his school?

How many classrooms are there in his school?

3.Practise reading: Read the dialogue together or in pairs

4.Ask some pairs to act out the dialogue in the front

Step 5. Presentation

1. Pre-listening.

Teach the rule three of plurals of countable nouns: “以辅音字母加y结尾,去yies,如:librarylibraries”.

2. Do the exercises of Part B.

Step6. Speaking

1.Even if there are already some words in the picture, ask Ss to mark as many English names as possible on the big picture, using those words which they have just learned, including basketball court, Pingpong table, meeting hall, school gate, etc.

2. Read the model dialogue twice, and Ss make their own dialogues according to what is in their own school, imitating the model.

Step 7. Consolidation

There is / are ….in our classroom.

Is / Are there ….in your classroom?

Yes, there is / are. No, there isn’t /aren’t.

How many … are there in your classroom?

Homework

1. Read aloud what we learn today.

2. Master the new words of this lesson.

Finish the exercise in the workbook.
